A new stadium for Juventus is under consideration, with the club weighing up the option of building from scratch as an alternative to expanding the Allianz Stadium, where they currently play. As one of the premier football clubs in Italy, Juventus is always on the lookout for ways to enhance their presence and experience for fans.

Project factsheet for a new stadium for Juventus

  • Juventus is weighing the options of a new stadium.
  • The aim is to boost capacity and elevate the fan experience.
  • Currently, the Allianz Stadium accommodates around 41,500 spectators.
  • Other clubs, such as Tottenham, Real Madrid, and AS Roma, have either constructed or are in the process of planning modern stadiums.

Opened in 2011, the Allianz Stadium is a cutting-edge facility in Italy, notable for being the first privately-owned stadium by a football club in the country. While it’s a fantastic venue, Juventus is contemplating whether to expand it or build a larger one to meet future demands.

Francesco Gianello, who oversees Facilities Management at Juventus, elaborated on these plans in an interview with Tuttosport:

We are not working to expand the capacity of the stadium, but we are thinking about the evolution of a new generation stadium: unlike previous stadiums, which have remained the same for decades, there is a constant need for updating.

Why consider building a new stadium?

Expanding the stadium could offer Juventus several advantages:

  • Boosting attendance: A larger venue means more fans can enjoy the matches, which translates to increased ticket sales and revenue.
  • Improving fan experience: Modern stadiums feature top-notch amenities like comfortable seating, a variety of food options, and additional entertainment spaces, making the matchday experience more enjoyable for everyone.
  • Flexibility for other events: A high-quality stadium can host a range of events beyond football, such as concerts and international sports competitions, creating more opportunities for revenue generation.

How much will Juventus new stadium actually cost?

While we can’t pinpoint an exact figure, we can look at what other clubs have spent to get a rough idea.

Take the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in England, for instance. It opened its doors in 2019 with a hefty price tag of around £1.2 billion, or about $1.5 billion, and it can accommodate 62,850 fans. This stadium is packed with modern features, including a pitch that can slide out!

AS Roma is also in the mix, planning a new stadium in Pietralata that they hope to open by 2027, with a projected cost of about €1 billion.

Real Madrid recently completed renovations on the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in December 2023. The upgrade came in at around €1.76 billion, or $1.91 billion, and now boasts a capacity of 85,000.

Barcelona is redeveloping Camp Nou through the “Espai Barca” project, which is expected to cost about €1.45 billion. This includes improvements to both the stadium itself and the surrounding area.

Lastly, Manchester United has plans for a new stadium that will hold 100,000 fans, set to replace Old Trafford. This ambitious project, aimed at revitalizing the area, could cost as much as £2 billion.

Considering all these figures, Juventus’s new stadium could fall somewhere between €1 billion and €2 billion. The final cost will hinge on the type of stadium they decide to build, including its size and modern features. A larger, more contemporary stadium could not only draw in more fans but also boost their revenue.
