The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the second phase of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony President Akufo-Addo said that as a result of increased urbanization, particularly in the West African country’s major cities, the ACARP could no longer cope with the increased municipal solid waste generated on a daily basis.

“It is for this reason that Jospong Group and Partners, one of the most diversified holdings companies in Ghana with operations in other African countries and Asia, with the support of the Government of Ghana, embarked on expanding the capacity of the compost and recycling facility from the initial 600 tonnes per day to 2,000 tonnes per day,” said the President.

The second phase of the ACARP Plant is well-equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities, as well as ultra-modern laboratories for training and research into modern effective processing and recycling technologies.
The completion of this facility, according to the West African country’s President, will bring immense benefits to manage effectively and efficiently the increased solid waste in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
The daily 2,000 tons of solid waste will be recycled to produce biodegradable material and plastic that will respectively be turned into fertilizer for farmers and sold to private operators to add raw material so as to make equipment such as chairs, buckets, and bowls.
“The plant will also create job opportunities for approximately 300 Ghanaians in various capacities on a full and part-time basis, which is one of the key priorities of the government, and this will translate into an improved standard of living for these workers and their families,” affirmed the president.
