What Next for One of the Largest BESS the World Germany
The project will be implemented in phases, with development and financing targeted for completion by mid-2026. Full commissioning is expected in 2029. Once operational, the facility will play a key role in stabilizing Germany’s energy grid and advancing the country’s renewable energy integration.
Timeline for One of the Largest BESS in the World Being Built in Germany by ADS-TEC
September 2025: Project announced. City council approval and also TSO grid connection assessment secured
Mid-2026: Development and financing
2026–2029: Construction and phased implementation
2029: Full commissioning and operations start
Outlook on the Project
ADS-TEC Energy will oversee project development, from planning and financing through implementation and operation.
To enhance its economics, the site will also integrate large-scale solar generation. Additionally, this will also help supply internal demand and reduce operating costs.
ADS-TEC’s Play in Germany’s Storage Energy Landscape
ADS-TEC Energy announcing plans to build one of the world’s largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in southern Germany, with a capacity of 1 GW and 2 GWh also underscores the company’s strategic push into large scale storage markets. It also highlights Germany’s growing reliance on flexible storage assets as renewables development continues to rise.
Thomas Speidel, CEO and Founder of ADS-TEC Energy, also highlighted the project’s importance during the announcement. “This project represents a turning point for our company. Beyond implementing one of the world’s largest BESS projects, we are laying the groundwork for an energy system that unites security of supply with sustainability.” Speidel said.
Germany also continues to add more renewable assets to its energy portfolio as seen in the recent addition of five more projects to the European Commission’s CB-RES official funding list.
