Safran Nacelle Morocco, a subsidiary of French aeronautic parts manufacturer Safran, inaugurated on Friday a new photovoltaic power station. With the aim of supplying its plant in Nouaceur province with green energy.

Solar panels turn solar radiation into heat, whereas photovoltaic power plants include panels that convert thermal energy into electricity.

According to a report from Morocco’s Press Agency, Safran’s new photovoltaic power station has a capacity of 1.7 megawatts and may supply more than 20% of the yearly energy requirements of the facility that makes aeronautical parts.

The photovoltaic power station in Casablanca to cut its CO2 emissions by 2,000 tonnes

Through 3,000 solar panels, the power plant may cut its CO2 emissions by 2,000 tonnes. Leila Banali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, was present for the power plant’s inauguration.

Safran Nacelles Morocco collaborated on the project with Qair Maroc, a company that specializes in the generation of green electricity. Furthermore, Safran also intends to increase the plant’s production capacity by putting in 1,800 more panels in 2023. Additionally, it is anticipated that the extension will provide a third of the plant’s energy requirements. And cut its annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 3,000 metric tonnes.

Benali expressed his support for the effort outside of the official opening. Saying that it would help Morocco adopt green energy and that the project was in keeping with Morocco’s green energy plan.

Vincent Caro, president of Safran, stated that his firm is dedicated to sustainable development. Furthermore, he mentioned that the corporation has set a goal to reduce its CO2 emissions by 30% by 2025 compared to 2018, and by 50% by 2030.

Caro said, “We are collaborating with the Moroccan government at our Casablanca facility to promote the consumption of renewable energy.”

According to Caro, who said he was proud of the new installation, the power station is “one of the largest photovoltaic panel plants on an industrial site in Morocco, and the first on an aeronautical site in the country.”
