AfriSam, producer and marketer of cement, aggregate and concrete products in southern Africa, has established a ready mix cement plant in Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone, located on the south-western coast of South Africa, about 105 kilometres North West of Cape Town. This is move geared towards maintaining the firm’s close presence with its rapidly increasing customer base.
The facility which has a production capacity of 70m³/h comprises offices, cement storage silos and dispatch areas for the delivery trucks.
According to Cornelius Bevin, AfriSam building construction materials Cape territory manager, the firm has been planning to increase its footprint in the region and was encouraged by the announcement of the upcoming contracts to build the Langebaan Hospital, the further extensive development of Saldanha’s IDZ and the widening of the port at Saldanha Bay.
Bevin also noted that the projects in hand will help increase infrastructure development such as roads, schools, housing and sewer systems and clinics all of which require ready mix concrete.
The plant will service the entire Saldanha Bay municipal area, including St Helena, Saldanha Bay, Langebaan, Paternoster, Jacobsbaai, Vredenburg and Hopefield.
AfriSam offers all purpose, eco building, high strength, rapid hard, and roadstab cements; premixes, such as concrete premix, plaster mix, building mix, and screed mix products; ready-mix products, including specialty and customized mixes; aggregate products comprising road stones, asphalt aggregate, concrete aggregate, road layer works materials, and specialty aggregates.
