President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi recently commissioned, via video conference, several road and transport projects in Upper Egypt region. The projects include the first phase of the Western Upper Egypt Desert Road where revamping and widening of the 230-kilometer Cairo-Menya highway to three lanes in each direction was carried out.

Other projects are the recently dualed Safaga/Qusair/Marsa Alam road that has a length of 200 kilometers and 3 sledge bridges, the 1834 meters Balina Bridge and the 1,300 meters Gerga Bridge in Sohag, the 540 meters Directorate Bridge in Beni Suef, and the bridge above the Toshka spillway in Aswan, which is 450 meters long.

According to the Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, the total number of commissioned projects, which are in line with the state’s efforts to achieve an integrated development and service renaissance for the people of Upper Egypt, is eleven.

More Road and Transport Projects in Upper Egypt looming

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that there are more similar projects that will be implemented in the various governorates of the North African Country.

El-Wazir said that the country has reviewed a number of main roads and bridges aimed at achieving comprehensive development in Upper Egypt, and five new axes with a total length of 88 kilometers on the Nile River.

The new axes in question include “Adly Mansour” in Beni Suef, “Samalut” in Minya, “Dairout” in Assiut, “Qus” in Qena, and “Kalabsha” in Aswan, and they will be executed at a cost of close to US$ 484M.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi warned against building on both sides of the new axes and directed to prevent construction on both sides of the axes, at a depth of one kilometer.
