The French tandem Egis Group and ADP Ingénierie, a wholly-owned Groupe ADP subsidiary, has won the contract to build the proposed Ali-Sabieh Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport in Bicidley, a locality in Ali-Sabieh, the second-largest city in Djibouti located some 90 kilometers southwest of Djibouti city, the largest city, and capital of the East African country.

The deal was signed with  Djibouti Port and Free Zone Authority (DPFZA), the governing authority that sets the rules, directives, and overarching principles for the smooth and efficient running of the current, and any future ports and free zones, in Djibouti.

France’s support for the project

This milestone, according to the DPFZA, comes following a recent visit of Ismael Omar Guelleh, President of Djibouti to Paris, France, where together with his counterpart President Emmanuel Macron they discussed plans for the new airport and France’s support for the said project.

The French tandem will carry out the preliminary studies, the master plan and the construction works for the Ali-Sabieh Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport. The studies and the elaboration of the airport master plan will be financed by the Fund of Studies and Support to the Private Sector (FASEP) of the French Treasury Department.

DPFZA noted that “the construction of this new International Airport is an important step in the strategy of creating transport synergy and will complement the missing link in the supply chain in Djibouti,” adding that “the airport will have a cargo terminal to serve as a basis for air-sea logistics and thus transform the country into a strategic airport hub in the region.”
