The Senegalese regulatory authority of telecommunications and posts (L’Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications et des Postes, ARTP), through Abdoul Ly, its Director-General, has announced plans to construct a US$ 1.7M Frequency Control Center in Kolda, a city located in the southern region of the West African Country.

According to Abdoul Ly, the Frequency Control Center in Kolda will facilitate the work of the telecoms regulator in terms of control and materialize its desire to decentralize its activities related to telecommunications services such as spectrum control, as well as better management of problems related to the quality of service (QoS) and to the collection of royalties.

Beyond improving the operational efficiency of ARTP, the Director-General of the Senegalese regulatory authority of telecommunications and posts said that the future Frequency Control Center in Kolda will also be a vector of jobs for the young people in the Fouladou area.

Center in Kolda, the second of its kind built by ARTP in the country

Upon completion, the Frequency Control Center in Kolda will be the second regional center built by ARTP in Senegal. Located in Matam, the capital town of the Matam Region in north-east Senegal, the first frequency control center was inaugurated last June by the Head of State, Macky Sall, during his economic tour in the north of the West African country.

The two investments result from the implementation of the management information system and automated control of frequencies (SIGAF) project back in 2007. The project enabled ARTP to install a national frequency management center in Dakar.
