Balwin Properties claims it plans to build a Crystal Lagoon at its Greater Thaba eco-village development in Johannesburg South, bringing “beach life” to the neighborhood. The listed property developer already has a lagoon in Pretoria East, The Blyde at Riverwalk Estate, and plans are in the works for a R9 billion development named Munyaka in Waterfall, Midrand, which would have the southern hemisphere’s biggest Crystal Lagoon – more than seven rugby fields.

Balwin announced that it had reached a deal with Tentacle Assets Proprietary to sell several Rietvlei Farm properties totaling 300 hectares, of which roughly 150 hectares is developable for an eco-estate with a capacity of 7,443 units. Luxury duplexes and free-standing residential homes will also be part of the development, which will be built by third-party construction companies with expertise in that area.

Balwin further claimed that the development would give the business a solid pipeline in the south of Johannesburg for the next decade and the possibility for buyers of various income categories to acquire a house in an eco-estate. According to the firm, the apartments are near the upscale Thaba Eco Hotel, which is located in a fast-expanding family-friendly area with plenty of green space.

Thaba eco-village Access to Major Roads

The N3 and N12 freeways, as well as other arterial roads, are close by. The N12 will provide access to the Greater Thaba Development from Klipriviersberg roads. According to Balwin, the development will include a school, value shopping, a fueling station, a Crystal Lagoon, an Art Park, and a large green space for trail running, mountain biking, and hiking.

The green space’s ambition includes installing a Green Flag-rated hiking route and constructing a green bridge connecting the Thaba eco-village development to the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve in the south of Johannesburg, resulting in around 1,000 hectares of the conservancy. In addition, Balwin’s ambition is for the reserve region to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which will boost international travel to the area and the metropole as a whole. The property will be created for consumers seeking affordable living with a unique lifestyle offering breathtaking views, top-rated schools, medical facilities, and shopping malls.
