Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., has closed project financing and tax equity for the 94 MW Blue Moon Solar Project in Harrison County, Kentucky, marking a major milestone for renewable energy development in the region. The funding package, totaling $260 million, comes from U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, which is providing both tax equity and construction financing. The project is smaller than Kentuckys largest solar farm currently under construction the Unbridled Solar Project that will boast suppy of 160 Mw when completed.

Construction is already underway on the project site, which spans more than 1,500 acres of gently rolling pastureland between Lexington and Cincinnati. Once operational in early 2026, the project will deliver clean, locally produced power into the PJM grid, supporting Kentucky’s growing demand for renewable energy.

Through a long-term power purchase agreement, Constellation will buy both the electricity and renewable energy certificates (RECs) generated by Blue Moon Solar. The offtake deal enables Constellation, a leading retail energy provider, to meet rising customer demand for zero-carbon energy solutions.

Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, emphasized the local economic impact of the project, highlighting the hundreds of construction jobs and new tax revenue it will generate for Harrison County. “Blue Moon Solar will help power Kentucky’s economic growth with affordable, sustainable energy,” Guerrero said. “We’re grateful to U.S. Bank and Constellation for making this milestone possible.”

Harrison County Judge/Executive Jason Marshall welcomed the investment, calling it “a major source of new tax revenue” for the county. In addition to economic benefits, Recurrent Energy’s Community CaRE Program has already provided donations to local causes, including the Harrison Memorial Hospital Foundation and various community events.

The project’s design features a single-axis tracking solar array that will maximize energy production. Recurrent Energy will continue to own and operate Blue Moon Solar after it begins commercial service, strengthening its presence in the U.S. clean energy market. Blue Moon Solar marks the company’s first project in Kentucky.

Darren Van’t Hof, Managing Director of Environmental Finance for U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, noted, “Our team is proud to provide custom financing solutions that help expand clean energy and create local jobs.”

With financing secured, Blue Moon Solar is on track to deliver reliable renewable energy to Kentucky for decades to come.
