Robins & Morton, a Birmingham-based construction firm, has commenced construction on a Brookwood Baptist hospital project in Homewood and this project covers the addition of 13 new operating rooms as well as administrative spaces for the hospital. The groundbreaking ceremony which took place recently had in attendance the Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey; Officials from Brookwood Baptist Medical Centre and Robins & Morton; including members of the community.
An additional 28,840 square feet will be developed across two floors at the medical center and according to the Hospital’s officials, the new suites have been designed to be larger and more technologically advanced; which will improve the services provided and make room for a broader range of specialty surgeries. The Brookwood Baptist hospital project also involves the renovation of a 3,500 square feet post-anesthesia care unit as well as a pedestrian bridge. Developers of the project expect all construction work to be completed in 2023.

Brookwood Baptist hospital extension Budget
The proposed budget for developing the Brookwood Baptist hospital project is $20 million. Although a spokesperson from Robins & Morton said the total cost is estimated at $30 million. Companies working on this project include: Evan Terry & Associates, serving as architects for this project and Robins & Morton, as the general contractor handling the project.
According to the CEO of Brookwood, Jeremy Clark the new suites to be added in the Brookwood Baptist hospital project will also offer advanced cardiac and vascular procedures, as well as robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgeries. He also pointed out that there is a need for more operating rooms to be built, as this would serve in accommodating modern advances in medical technology.
The project director of Robins & Morton Ashley Dyer was eager to work with the neighboring Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, which is about a half mile away from the Robins & Morton office. He mentioned that the Brookwood Baptist hospital project was a unique avenue to support the improvements taking place at the medical center. Dyer also said, “We’re grateful for the trust they’ve placed in us, year after year, to help them deliver world-class care.”
