The Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Centre in Port Harcourt will soon be inaugurated according to Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, stated on Wednesday that . He said the facility will serve as a vehicle for promoting economic and social development and generating revenue for the State.
Governor Wike made this known shortly after inspecting the progress of construction work at the hospital.
Multi Billion Naira Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Centre Project
The governor explained that his administration was spurred to embark on the construction of the multibillion Naira project Centre to help patients who cannot afford to travel abroad for medical treatment.
He claimed that once the facility is operational, the number of people who travel abroad for medical care will significantly decline. Because the state will be able to conveniently handle complex cases.
Wike said, “Most people have passed away, primarily from one form of cancer or one form of heart disease. Additionally, a large number of these individuals could not have had the resources to seek medical attention abroad. We therefore declared that we could no longer tolerate this.
Governor Wike noted that the country has lots of cancer and cardiovascular experts. But the lack of cutting-edge medical equipment and standard hospital often limit their potentials.
According to him, the world class Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Centre will be equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities. As a result, it will enable medical professionals to maximize their full potentials in the State.

Partnership of the cardiovascular disease treatment centre
Furthermore, Governor Wike disclosed that the Rivers State government will engage private partners to manage the hospital.
He stated, “We have already started discussions with foreign partners who will take over the management of this center. The Ministry of Health will not be left in charge of it, but their doctors will be involved. We will construct it through a public-private collaboration so that we don’t regret investing in this edifice.”
Wike applauded Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the project’s contractor, for upholding the contract’s conditions and the deadline for project completion.
He said, “Julius Berger has completed a project that we said would be completed in a year. The only thing left to do is pick a date and commission it. World-class care will be provided at the Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Center. I’m not making comparisons, but I’m not aware of a center that can rival this one for cardiovascular disease treatment. If you’ve traveled extensively, you probably already know what it is.
