China Shanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation (CSCEGC) is set to reconstruct new vocational and training Centre in Liberia, the Youth and Sports Ministry has revealed.

He also revealed that the reconstruction is scheduled to be completed by next month and will be commissioned by Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The US$10m project will be made of classrooms, offices, dormitories and teachers’ quarters. According to Minister Nagbe, the new training centre in Liberia will have separate dormitories for males and females students including single and family staff quarters aimed at facilitating a conducive learning environment to achieve the necessary transformative goals.

The institution will also offer opportunities to over 2,000 students with an option to choose either morning or evening sessions. The institution will as well train over 15,000 youths more than what it trained per semester before the reconstruction.

In the meantime, classes have been suspended to give way for the ongoing renovation on the old MVTC building. The project covers about 6,000m2 and is being funded by the People’s Republic of China. MVTC offers several skills training, including plumbing, masonry, general construction, carpentry, air-conditioning, refrigeration among others with a training period of 18 months. The institution also offers computer education which takes 9 months.

However, the government of Liberia and the People’s Republic of China signed an Exchange of Letters to build a modern training center to develop employable youth for the job market, the agreement was signed in June 2011.
