The development will see the two stadiums equipped with modern equipment as part of the upgrade of sport and recreational facilities in the capital. The idea according to the CADP is to have “new look stadia that can host other activities apart from the sporting ones in a bid to raise revenue for the county government”.
Scope of the renovation and construction of the City and Dandora Stadiums
Works on the 10,000-seater City Stadium, which is the oldest in Nairobi, are being carried out in two phases. The first phase includes gridding and plastering of the main sitting terraces, construction of two ablution blocks and alongside fitting them with basic utilities, renovation of VIP lounge and fitting it with sanitary rooms and kitchen, renovation of the two dressing rooms, and fitting them with furniture.
The second phase involves the replacement of the artificial turf, rehabilitation of the pitch drainage system, high mast floodlights, and running tartan track, in addition to the construction of more sitting terraces amongst other works.
The Dandora Stadium on the other hand stalled in September 2019 with 80 percent of the construction work already done. This includes the installation of more than 3,000 seats in the terraces, construction of changing rooms, and floodlights fitting.
