Jams + Stark development group has plans of building a Colite City complex to cater to young entrepreneur businesses in South Carolina. The developer refers to the project as a historic renovation, especially since the site was an entrepreneurial complex several decades ago.
According to Wade Caughman, Jams + Stark’s director, the former entrepreneurial complex dates back to the 50s and 60s. Caughman mentioned that their vision was to reenact a business environment similar to the one from the 50s and 60s. In addition, he said the Colite City complex would bring in successful entrepreneurs willing to help the upcoming ones grow.

Construction Timeline for the Colite City complex
A former Colonial-Heights Manufacturing Plant which has been vacant for years currently occupies a portion of the 10-acre property. However, the developer intends to repurpose this abandoned factory as the first phase of its Colite City complex. The groundbreaking has been set for early 2023, with Phase I scheduled to reach completion in about a year. Subsequently, construction will commence on the second phase, which has a six months timeline and also include multi-family housing units
The 7-ɗecade-old Colonial-Heights building located at 228 North Parson St, looks dilapidated on the outside. But it still retains its original concrete and steel, which will provide a sturdy framework for the Colite City complex. Jams + Stark already made moves in 2018, to include the building among the nation’s list of preservation-worthy historic places.
Kaufman mentioned that the City of West Columbia has already approved a building permit for the roof and basement renovations. He also said the Colite City complex would become a creative, innovative, entrepreneurial campus for a variety of businesses. Therefore, the building’s design plan includes event, market, studio, and flex space to enable collaboration between business owners.
West Columbia’s Mayor Tem Miles was pleased with the first renderings released for the Colite City complex. Miles said the project seemed to fit with the city’s overall redevelopment plans. Therefore, he said everyone was looking excited to have this level of potential investment at the heart of the city.
