Construction of the new Elanco global headquarters in Indianapolis has officially been launched. Elanco Animal Health Inc executives, together with Governor Eric Holcomb and Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers, recently flung a ceremonial shovel to honor the event.
The US$100 million project was announced in December, after the company’s announcement that it will be relocating from Greenfield and constructing its facility on 45 acres of the former GM Stamping Plant. According to the corporation, the project would not only involve the construction of additional office space, but also the establishment of a cutting-edge research center and business incubator for Indiana’s burgeoning ag bioscience sector.
Overview of the New Elanco Global Headquarters and its aim
On the west bank of the White River, the 220,000-square-foot Elanco global headquarters will contain a six-story skyscraper and additional structures. Elanco greenspace will be integrated into the developing White River State Park, according to plans. The project, according to Simmons, is also about bringing the “heart of downtown” to the west side and functioning as a catalyst for the neighborhood.

A revival on a side of town that lost a big employer more than a decade ago is part of that movement. In June 2011, the final employee at the GM Stamping facility walked out of the huge industrial shell. It employed 5,500 people at one point.
“Elanco is one of the few independent firms that can reach all of the world’s animals as well as up to 100 nations. And we can truly invite inventors and collaborators here so that their innovations and ideas may reach the world’s animals. That is the epicenter,” Elanco President and CEO Jeff Simmons explained.
“It’s not about the structure. This isn’t about a building. It’s a social movement. We’re discussing ‘building’ as a verb, not a noun. “We’re constructing pathways to connect Indianapolis’ historic west side to the city center,” he continued.
