Construction has begun on 3 Indiana renewable natural gas plants located at the Prairie View Landfill in Wyatt, the Twin Bridges Landfill in Danville, and the Liberty Landfill in Monticello, with all Kinetrex Energy projects expected to produce a total of 3.5 billion cubic feet LNG per year after completion. Commercial operation is expected to begin in autumn 2022, provided the necessary certifications and permits are in place. The company has announced that it will invest US$146 million to build renewable natural gas facilities that will process gas purchased from the Wabash Valley Power Alliance.

The newIndiana renewable natural gas plants are designed to convert this methane into pipe-quality natural gas and to capture the methane produced in landfills. This capture process eliminates or reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the landfill and provides efficient and inexpensive renewable energy. The renewable natural gas produced from the facilities will be sold under long-term contracts to Kinetrex Energy Liquefied Renewable Natural Gas (LRNG) and Compressed Renewable Natural Gas (CRNG) vehicle transportation customers in the eastern half of the United States. Landfills will operate the new RNG facilities and WCPA will continue to have generation facilities at the sites that will remain in operation.

“We are excited to support Wabash Valley PA, with a long history in landfill gas, in this initiative to bring additional renewable fuels and low carbon solutions to market. We anticipate these plants will produce renewable fuels that will replace about 28 million gallons of traditional diesel each year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 280,000 tons. It’s like taking 60,000 vehicles off the road every year; makes a significant contribution to reducing methane emissions, “said Aaron Johnson, president, renewable natural gas, Kinder Morgan Inc.
