Brookfield Properties, which develops and operates real estate investments on behalf of Brookfield Asset Management — one of the largest alternative asset managers in the world has completed the construction of a US$1bn 5M Mixed-Use Property in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood.

Launched in March 2019, in the presence of city authorities, artistic organizations, and community groups, the Mixed-Use Property was constructed in collaboration with Hearst Corporation that operates as a diversified media and information company providing magazines, newspapers, business publications, broadcasting, entertainment services, real estate operations, and ventures.

The actual construction works began in 2019, and according to Brookfield, the project provided 1,200 construction employment.

Features of the 5M Mixed-Use Property in San Francisco

Billed as a cultural arts district by the developers,  the 5M Mixed-Use Property in San Francisco includes a 25-story office structure, an apartment complex, a park, and three renovated old buildings.

In addition to the office, residential, and retail space, the property which spans across 4 acres piece of land surrounded by Mission, Howard, and 5th streets, also features a dedicated artistic, cultural, and educational area.

SITELAB Urban Studio, a San Francisco-based strategic design firm focused on utilizing research & visualization to create great places, through big plans and small interventions, was the master plan’s primary urban designer.

Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), an American architecture firm that provides architecture, interior, programming, and master planning services for clients in both the public and private sectors, was the secondary urban designer working closely with SITELAB that also oversaw public realm planning initiatives for the 5M Mixed-Use Property Project in San Francisco.
