A groundbreaking ceremony has been held to officially mark the start of the construction of the Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing plant in Rushville, Indiana.
The ceremony was held by the project’s developer, Diamond Pet Foods, in Rushville at 2606 North State Road 3. In attendance were Governor Eric Holcomb, Rushville Mayor Mike Pavey, and Diamond Pet Foods officials.
Plans for the development of the US$ 260M project were first floated in November 2021. The estimated cost of the project at the time was US$ 200M. However, the cost has since increased by US$ 60M.
The IEDC has offered Diamond Pet Foods up to US$ 1.8 million in conditional tax credits for this project. However, the company will only be eligible to claim the monies when it hires Hoosier workers for the new jobs. It also has to have made local infrastructure improvements to claim the funds. Rushville city has offered additional incentives for the project.
The Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing plant in Rushville is anticipated to be operational in 2024.
An overview of the Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing plant in Rushville
The new 700,000-square-foot facility will be Diamond Pet Foods’ first in Indiana. This is according to the Rush County Economic Development Corp. Additionally, the facility will be one of the biggest private investments in Rushville’s history.
Diamond Pet Foods claims that the need to expand its Midwest footprint is due to rising pet food demand and rising pet ownership in the United States. The manufacturing plant is therefore expected to enable the business to enhance its output for clients throughout the region.
“We are thrilled to select Rushville because of its close proximity to suppliers and the area’s competent workforce. We will thus be able to continue providing premium pet food at affordable pricing because of this new cutting-edge factory,” said Mike Kampeter. The latter is the Diamond Pet Foods President.
