The project for the construction of the Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi is currently 25% complete. Located in Saadiyat Cultural District, the facility is anticipated to be the largest of its kind in the region.
It will reportedly allow visitors to travel on a 14-billion-year journey through time and space. The journey will start from the earliest origins of the Universe to the provoking perspectives that attempt to map the Earth’s future.
The project is due to be completed at the end of 2025.
Features of the Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi
The Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi will feature a scientific research and teaching institution. Additionally, it will feature an educational resource for learning about the evolving story of the planet. The aim is to ignite a life-long passion for the natural world in visitors of all ages.

The innovative scientific research facility will offer zoology, paleontology, geology, and marine biology. Additionally, it will offer molecular research (aDNA and proteomics), entomology, and earth sciences. The primary aim will not only be to advance knowledge and increase understanding of our past. It will also create a think tank for future innovation and emerging technologies.
The project team
Covering an area of more than 35,000 sqm, the Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi was designed by Mecanoo as the lead architect. Its design resonates with natural rock formations, reflecting the museum’s goal of improving understanding of and engagement with the natural world.
ALEC, the United Arab Emirates-based construction group is responsible for the project’s main development. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral are also involved in the construction of the Natural History Museum of Abu Dhabi.
