The construction of the US$ 17m Tsogo Sun StayEasy Maputo Hotel, in Mozambique has started.

The new hotel will be a 125 room and is set to be completed by April 2018. It is being built as a mixed-use development and will be located above the new Baia Mall that is currently under construction.

Tsogo CEO Marcel von Aulock confirmed the reports and said that it is the right time to expand their footprint in the African country which is a tourist attraction to both local and international travelers.

“The time is right to increase our footprint in this prime tourist destination, which attracts both international and local travellers with its tropical climate, lush scenery, golden beaches, diverse culture and exquisite cuisine,” said Marcel von Aulock.

Apart from it being a tourist attraction, the country’s growing economy has also contributed to the group’s decision to boost its investment in Maputo.

“We believe this hotel will hold an extra appeal for its exciting location above a lively new mall and we look forward to seeing it become a hotel destination of choice for most of the travelers, he added.”
