The Minister of Transport, Amadou Koné, recently laid the foundation stone to mark the start of construction of vehicle pound in Cote d’Ivoire, as part of the video-verbalization at PK 22 in Allokoi, on the Abidjan-Attinguié section.

Mainly made up of parking areas and an administrative area, the facility will be built on a five hectares piece of land over a period of 18 months by Quipux Afrique SA. The latter is the company that was awarded by the state the contract to design, finance, implement, operate and maintain the pound.

The administrative area will take up 14% of the entire site, which is the equivalent of 7,754 m2. It will include two blocks of buildings for offices, a garage for vehicle maintenance and parking for vehicles of the special road safety police, a radio PC for better communication between operational teams, an auction room, a canteen, and an infirmary.

The parking area on the other hand will cover 72% or four hectares of the entire project area. It will have a total of 1,546 parking spaces.

Expectations for the facility

According to Amadou Koné the infrastructure, dubbed CGI Park, the pound will make it possible to simplify the procedures for managing impounded vehicles, alleviate the tasks to be accomplished for all the actors, better the quality of service for the users, mobilize non-fiscal resources, and fight against incivism on the road.

Diaby Ibrahim, the Director-General of the High Council of Employers of Road Transport Companies on the other hand expressed satisfaction on behalf of the transport stakeholders for the achievement of this pound.

According to him, carriers in case of infringement the pound will now be the destination of their vehicles, which is not currently the case.
