The Baptist Health Floyd system board approved a US$65 million building project that would be completed in two parts. Construction is set to begin in the spring of 2022, with completion scheduled for the fall of 2024. The first phase of the project will incorporate a hybrid operating room, two traditional operating room suites, and two process rooms. This brings the total number of operating rooms at Baptist Health Floyd to nine, three procedural rooms, two cardiovascular operating rooms, and one hybrid OR suite. Shell space for four future operating rooms is also included in this proposal.

“We are really enthusiastic about this initiative since it will enable us to improve the patient experience and extend our services and activities.” This is a US$65 million project that will affect many areas of the hospital and demonstrates Baptist Health’s commitment to supporting the Strategic Plan, growth, and staff of Baptist Health Floyd, as well as overall health care in southern Indiana,” said Baptist Health Floyd President Mike Schroyer.

The phase one design also includes the remodeling of the present surgical services department, which includes 30 pre-and post-op bays, new locker rooms, a new outpatient surgical flow and waiting area, and storage space. The development of the third level, which will feature an in-patient cath lab and 32 to 40 universal beds, is another critical component of the phase one construction project. The project’s second phase will involve the extension of Baptist Health Medical Group’s office space for additional physicians, as well as the growth of surgical services and the recruitment of new specialty providers.
The hospital first opened its doors in 1953 and has since grown to become one of the most important regional healthcare providers, with over 600 physicians covering a wide range of specialties. The hospital now employs over 2,000 people and has received the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Recognition Program’s Pathway to Excellence award for excellence in nursing services.
