Colas Projects Ltd, a subsidiary of Colas Group and a world leader in the construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure, has been given the contract to build the Swindon Borough Council’s Fleming Way Bus Boulevard, a new public transport interchange in Swindon town center.

The Swindon Borough Council project proposal will fully modify Fleming Way to accommodate all bus services in the town, and it will also incorporate a new public open space on the north side where a green central spine will be developed.

Colas will reportedly plant trees and bee-friendly plants, increasing the area’s vegetation and biodiversity in the town center. The exercise, other than increasing biodiversity in the town center, will also be a part of the Sustainable Urban Drainage System that will run along the middle of the highway.

The proposal will also include much-improved pedestrian and cycle routes, as well as the elimination of the current Fleming Way underpass, creating a pleasant approach from the train station to the town center.

Expectations for the Fleming Way Bus Boulevard

According to Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Transport, and Planning, Councillor Gary Sumner, the Fleming Way Bus Boulevard project is expected to help improve land values in the area by close to US$ 45M, making it substantially more appealing to investors.

Sumner further said that Colas’ award-winning approach to community support will see them provide employment possibilities for local residents, with a special focus on those who have been unemployed or disadvantaged for a long time, as well as employment support sessions and work placements for young people.
