The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has chosen Kier to build a new $31.29 million (£27.5 million) health and wellbeing center in Ringland, Newport, South Wales. Kier won the contract through the Building for Wales Framework.
The new center will house two existing GP practices and provide a variety of services. They include community services, general medical services, social care, community dentistry, and third-sector partners. Kier’s contract scope also includes the construction of a new car park and a mobile health center. Furthermore, they will build a new tarmac pitch to replace the old one. During the project, the local community will use the mobile health center.
The existing community hub services will be integrated with the new Health and Wellbeing Centre. Thus, it will strengthen the services offered to promote independent living, reduce loneliness, and promote well-being. Work on the health and wellbeing center in Ringland has begun, with completion scheduled for January 2025.

“This is a key development for the community in Newport and our Wales business,” Kier Construction Western & Wales regional director Jason Taylor said. “This new Health and Wellbeing Centre will connect directly to the community hub, allowing for effective integration with larger community services and creating a community focus on health and wellbeing.”
The company is currently completing recladding work at Swansea’s Singleton Hospital. Kier is building a similar health and wellness center in Tredegar, Wales. Croydon Health Services NHS Trust awarded Kier a contract for a £10.4 million refurbishment project at Croydon University Hospital in the United Kingdom in February of this year.
