Gigawatt global is set to spend about US$2billion in developing and pumping 1000Mw of solar power in Africa by 2020.
Dutch company Gigawatt has said the 1000MW power project will have its roots in East Africa where the largest photovoltaic field will be built in Rwanda. Burundi is one of the countries that could also benefit when this facility is expanded. Construction for the power plant has already kicked off in Rwanda. When completed, the solar plant at Agahozo Shalom Youth Village will be the first commercial utility-scale and grid-connected facility of its kind.
The photovoltaic field solar power plant will help to serve electricity to 11 million people in Rwanda. It will cost $23.7-million and generate 8.5 MW according to Yosef Abramowitz, Gigawatt’s president. Gigawatt Global is a single source for financing, technology, and strategic planning firm.
GWG partners with select local management teams and brings the company’s relationships, expertise, and track record to create professional, achievable solar power projects.
Gigawatt Global has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Energy and Mines for the solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, which is also expected to cut down expenses incurred from diesel power generation.
