The nonprofit group, Delmar DivINe, and Ameren have collaborated to bring a solar project to life in St. Louis, Missouri. The initiative intends to create jobs and spread sustainable energy in the area. Solar panels will be put above the Delmar DivINe parking lot on Belt Avenue as part of the US$1.5 million project, creating a solar canopy that will provide weather and shade. This is the most recent project in Ameren’s Neighborhood Solar Program, which works with non-residential customers like schools or non-profits to install solar panels at no cost to the organization.

The solar panels, which are projected to be operational by 2023, would provide enough energy to power more than 30 households for a year. It is planned to generate approximately a dozen construction jobs in the area. Ameren also aims to educate the community about renewable energy and invest $300,000 in Delmar DivINe. With meeting rooms and studios, the non-profit acts as a nexus for economic and community development in St. Louis. “Our purpose is to be a catalyst for the transformation of the communities north of Delmar Boulevard, and we are continually seeking for ways to provide them the up-to-date resources they need to build a better tomorrow,” said the executive director of Delmar DivINe, Jorge Riopedre.

Commentary on the Delmar DivINe and Ameren solar collaboration

“Ameren Missouri has been deliberate in its investment in north St. Louis areas, so we’re thrilled that Delmar DivINe was willing to collaborate on this project.” This project will not only create employment and raise awareness of solar energy on a local level, but it will also provide practical advantages to surrounding customers. “Bringing renewable energy generation closer to neighborhoods decreases system costs while boosting energy grid dependability and efficiency for everyone,” said Patrick Smith, Ameren Missouri’s vice president of economic, community, and business development.
