Delta State government has canceled the contract for the Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu LGA due to the contractor’s subpar work.
Noel Omodon, the commissioner for works (highways and urban roads), informed reporters in Asaba about the decision. He stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa presided over the State Executive Council meeting where the contract decision was made.
Remarks on the termination of the Ayakoromo bridge contract
He claims that Exco allowed the repudiation of the Ayakoromo bridge contract because the contractor was unable to complete the project as planned.
“Exco accepted the termination of the contract in order to allow us to find another contractor to finish the project. The pace of work on the Ayakoromo bridge has become so slow and they are experiencing their own internal issues. This is one of the very critical projects we want to accomplish,” he explained.

He said additional projects were reviewed as a result of rising prices for building supplies like sharp stones and rods.
He said, “The review for the Orere Bridge, the Achala-Ibusa Road, and the Trans Warri Road was approved by Exco. Furthermore, we also authorized the contracts for the three new universities’ faculties of management and social sciences.
