Atrium Health was recently granted their final approval to build a two-story, new Atrium Health Medical Office Facility in Statesville, by the Cornelius town board. Atrium’s new Medical Office Facility, will be developed on a 6.54-acre site, located at 18341 Statesville Road or U.S. Highway 21, at the intersection point with Bailey Road Extension, northward of Grace Covenant Church.

The new Atrium Health Medical Office Facility project’s site is just a section of a 97-acre parcel of land, which was purchased by Atrium in late 2019 and Atrium’s new medical office building will be built at the south end of this property. This new facility is being built to cater for professional and general medical purposes and its design includes a stormwater pond and fountain, with a walking trail around it.

According to the Deputy Town Manager, Wayne Herron, the design plans for this new Medical Office Facility in Statesville would result in a good looking building. Herron was particularly impressed with the positioning of the stormwater pond, which would give a unique identity to the area. He pointed out that the stormwater pond, was designed to be front and center along Statesville Road. He also mentioned that it would be the best stormwater pond in the town.

Herron added, “The trail around it with benches would promote the health of employees and visitors to the facility.”

Some of the conditions surrounding the approval of Atrium’s Medical Office Facility in Statesville, include the potential amendment of the intersection design of U.S. 21 and Bailey Road extension, in accordance with the Atrium traffic impact analysis. In addition, Atrium is also making payments to fund the construction of a 10-foot wide multi-use path on Statesville Road.

Heron also commended Atrium for the time and attention being put into developing this Medical Office Facility in Statesville. He said, “This will be a beautiful amenity. It’s there to treat water and for utilitarian purposes, but they’ve done a fantastic job at making this a great amenity.”
