The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has confirmed that its Hatta Reservoir Project is 75% complete. Upon completion, the project will feature a storage capacity of 30 million imperial gallons (MIG) of water.Â
The Hatta Reservoir Project is being implemented as part of an effort to store water that would be retrieved when needed. The project’s a part of DEWA’s larger commitment to ensuring the quality of the stored water remains completely unaffected by external factors.

With a construction cost of US $23.4 million, the project will provide the region with a strategic reserve of well up to 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day. In cases of emergencies would be able to sustain the region with clean water for 90 days.
The CEO and Managing Director of DEWA further explained the project’s significant role in water reservation. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer noted that the project is a part of Dubai’s effort to store about six billion gallons of water in aquifers. Saeed Mohammaed assured that it will help facilitate as well as speed up rapid distribution. Moreover, he said, it will help allow for additional supplies to be sent to in-need zones as required without any possible disruption to overall activity.
Lastly, Al Tayer added, the project aims to serve as a further contribution towards the foundations of sustainable development. More especially, through the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta. The five-year plan (2022-2026) aims to generate investment opportunities as well as well-being for the region.
