Dubai Waste Management Center (DMC) project in Dubai has officially hit 85% completion. The Dubai Municipality made the project’s progress announcement.
According to the municipal body, the project will push Dubai as a global model when it boils down to sustainable development. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the Dubai Municipality’s strategic objective. The objective aims to not only reduce but completely divert waste from landfills by the year 2030.
The construction works for the project began in 2021 by the Dubai Waste Management Center (DWMC). By 2023, the first phase of the project is set to be ready. Meanwhile, the entire project aims to be completed by 2024.
Set within the Al Warsan area, the first-of-its-kind project will convert well up to 45% of Dubai’s municipal waste into renewable energy. The project will cover a total area of 400,000 square meters. Moreover, it will feature a seam turbine and a generator, which have been installed.
The facility will use state-of-the-art Swiss and Japanese technologies for the treatment process. These will ensure that any emissions are odor-free, and most importantly, environmentally friendly.
Remarks on the project
The Director General of the Dubai Municipality spoke about the project. Dawoud Al Hajri said that the DMWC aims to provide an innovative solution toward the transformation of huge quantities of waste into sustainable sources of clean energy. Therefore, and without a doubt, he continued, the project reflects the region’s efforts in protecting the environment.
Without a doubt, the region’s population is growing at an increasingly rapid rate. Thus, the project specifically aims to minimize the potential volume of municipal waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. Furthermore, Dawoud Al Hajri also revealed upon official operation, the facility will process well over 1.9 tonnes of waste annually.
Moreover, the generation of renewable energy will then supply power to approximately 135,000 homes. In fact, the plant’s renewable energy will feed the local electricity grid with well up to 215MWh of clean energy.

Dubai Waste Management Center to Commence Operations in Early 2023
The Dubai Waste Management Center (DMC), which is home to the world’s largest waste-to-energy facility is set to commence operations at the beginning of next year. The Dubai Municipality revealed this.
The facility will feature five treatment lines. However, for initial operations, the facility will work with two of the treatment lines. They will generate a total of 80 Mwh of renewable energy. Furthermore, the treatment lines will process well about 2000 tons of solid waste within a day.
The very first stage of the facility will include the receiving of waste. Thereafter, the resulting steam pressure will be used to operate the steam turbine. Which, will then produce enough rotational energy to move the attached electric generator. The facility also aims to establish a sustainable and eco-friendly system within the emirate for waste management.
