Construction of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) new headquarters, Al Shera’a, has begun in Al Jaddaf. The building is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025. The project is one of the world’s front-line developments in sustainable architecture. Al Shera’a will be the world’s tallest, largest, and most intelligent energy-positive government building. The building will have a cost of 1.5 billion dirhams ($408 million) and will cover over two million square feet. Once complete, it will house 3,000 employees in 15 levels, a basement, and five parking levels. The most striking aspect of the building is that it will generate more energy than it uses. With over 20,000 square metres of photovoltaic (PV) panels, it will generate over 7,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually. Solar trees and shaded PV structures will also boost its total capacity to 5,000 kWp. Al Shera’a embodies and exemplifies Dubai’s commitment to a clean and sustainable future.

The Significance of DEWA’s Al Shera’a Once Completed

Al Shera’a breaks away from conventional design by introducing advanced sustainability technologies. It incorporates 1,000 sqm of building-integrated photovoltaic panels and 2,000 sqm of podium fins. Both elements improve its energy efficiency as well as its aesthetic appeal. Also, the building will consume 50 percent less water than an average office. It is pursuing LEED Platinum and WELL Gold certification, prioritizing both environmental and human health standards. Al Sher’a directly supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. DEWA stresses that the project aligns with national initiatives to shift towards green energy. Furthermore, this project establishes a new global standard. Shifting from conventional to energy-positive buildings is crucial to realizing future sustainability objectives. Dubai demonstrates innovation and leadership in climate-friendly development through Al Shera’a.
