Cairo Metro and Alstom Complex projects continue progressing under Egypt–France cooperation, with 2026 updates showing steady construction and technical advancement across multiple transport schemes. The infrastructure project now reflects stronger alignment between metro expansion, monorail delivery, and industrial localization. Moreover, authorities are accelerating implementation to meet urban mobility and industrial development targets.
Additionally, recent developments indicate that Cairo Metro Line 6 planning has advanced into technical preparation stages. French firms Egis and Setec are finalizing design specifications, while Alstom is preparing technical and financial proposals.
Furthermore, construction of the Alstom industrial complex in Borg El Arab has moved into active development. Equipment delivery has begun, and structural works are visible on-site as of 2026.
Meanwhile, Egypt continues to integrate these projects within a broader transport ecosystem that includes metro, monorail, and rail manufacturing. Notably, the East Nile monorail line has already entered operation in 2026, signaling tangible progress in the country’s mobility agenda.
In addition, the $4.5 billion Cairo Metro Line 4 development complements this cooperation by expanding west–east connectivity. Together, these projects form a coordinated pipeline aimed at reducing congestion and improving transit efficiency across Greater Cairo.
Scope of Implementation on Egypt’s Cairo Metro and Alstom Complex Project

Egypt and France are focusing on strategically implementing the Cairo Metro and Alstom Complex projects for smooth execution. Cairo Metro Line 6 is expected to provide enhanced mobility in the city. Furthermore, it is expected to eradicate the traffic congestion in Greater Cairo. Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels also scrutinizes technical documents before providing final consent. On the other hand, the Alstom Industrial Complex will manufacture key railway components, including control panels and electrical systems. Furthermore, the plant will produce metro trains, trams, and high-speed rail, boosting Egypt’s industrial base. The complex will also raise Egypt’s exports to the Middle East and Africa, strengthening its position in the international market.
