The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for Qatar north field production sustainability offshore compression complexes project has been awarded. The contract, the total value of which amounts to approximately $4.5 billion, was awarded by Qatargas to Saipem.
Qatargas is the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) company producing and supplying over 77 million metric tonnes of LNG around the globe annually. Saipem S.p.A. on the other hand is an Italian multinational oilfield services company and one of the largest of its kind in the world.Â

According to Saipem, the contract for Qatar north field production sustainability offshore compression complexes project is the ‘largest’ single offshore contract by total value, in its history.
Under the contract, the company will be responsible for the engineering, procurements as well as fabrication of the two offshore developments. Additionally, the company will also be responsible for the installation of offshore natural gas compression complexes.

The project intends to sustain the production of the North Field. To achieve this it will comprise two fixed steel jacket compression platforms as well as interface modules. Additionally, it will also feature flare platforms and living quarters.
Noteworthy, the Qatar north field production sustainability offshore compression complexes project spans a total area of well over 6,000 kilometers squared.Â
Other contracts awarded for the Qatar north field production sustainability offshore compression complexes project
Qatargas, in March 2021, awarded a $1 billion contract to Saipem for offshore export pipelines as well as related onshore works for the project. Within the same year, the company also selected an Italian contractor for the project’s additional scope of work.
The contract will enable Saipem to accelerate its strategic repositioning. This is especially in regard to its positioning within the offshore segments (E&C and drilling). This, year-to-date, represents a huge chunk of the company’s announced order intake.
In order to execute the Qatar north field production sustainability offshore compression complexes project, the company will leverage its assets. Moreover, it will also leverage its know-how as well as competencies in offshore engineering, installation, and fabrication.
