The Ethiopian Teachers’ Association (ETA), a trade union in Ethiopia affiliated with Education International (EI), a global union federation (GUF) of teachers’ trade unions, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of its proposed multi-storey building in Addis Ababa.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Yohannes Benti, the President of the ETA, and it was attended by Dr. Eng. Getahun Mekuria, the Minister of Education and Deputy Mayor, Adanech Abebe.
The building will be built, under the supervision of Yohannes Abbay Consulting Architects & Engineers, on 4,382 square meters of land provided by the Addis Ababa City Administration in the Sengatara area of the Lideta sub-city.
Designed by ATCON Consulting Engineering & Architects, the building will house a hospital that will provide free and affordable services for people in need, a research center, and a library for use by the association’s members and the general public. It will also have commercial office space that will be leased to generate revenue.
