A US$ 15.9m blended fertilizer plant has been inaugurated in Tulu Bolo, Ethiopia to boost the economic growth of the agricultural sector and also reduce the importation costs. This is the first fertilizer plant of its kind and it has the capacity to produce 100 metric tons of fertilizer annually.
The fertilizer is blended from more than 10 elements, unlike DAP and UREA, which have limited ingredients, which the country had been importing for quite some time.
Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture revealed that the construction of three fertilizer plants in Tigray, Amhara and Southern Peoples Regional States is underway and are anticipated to be completed in 2017.
Fertilizers are key to revitalizing Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, which is the main contributor to national economic growth.
