One of the several infrastructural projects lined up in Ethiopia, the Azezo-Gorgora road project is being constructed by Tirfu Construction Company and is one among the impressing ones Infrastructure expansion is paramount in creating an enabling environment for development. For a long time, the government has preoccupied itself with this endeavor  consequently and much  has been achieved.
On a working visit recently the Ethiopian Road Authority Communication  Director Samson Wondimu indicated that the government had allocated 720 million Birr for the Azezo-Gorgora road construction project. The road is 53 kms in length and 4 km in width.
Samson said the construction of the road began way back in 2005 E.C and to date 47 kms have been completed and the remaining 6 km will be done by next July 2008 E.C.
He further added that the road project has strengthened the local contractor’s capacity in addition to enhancing socio-economic activities in the area
Project manager Abera Merga, on his part said that the construction is going on as designed and on schedule and has the ability to serve for five years without any maintenance. He admitted that disperse settlement especially in urban areas posed its own negative impacts on the accomplishment speed of the road
One of the residents in Dembia Woreda said that the community has suffered a lot in the previous time due to the absence of viable road in the community. In the real time economic activities hampered when transport systems were interrupted. The new asphalt road brought a ray of hope to the community.
Upon completion of the Azezo-Gorgora road project, crops produce in the area such as sorghum Teff, barley maize, rice, wheat and spices will be transported easily to Gondar market and farmers would gain a lot.
Additionally the road will strengthen public to public relation enhance trade and cut down on transaction cost.
It will also connect Azezo to the Gorgora lake-resort road which is a tourist destination and boost woreda income.
Many tourists travel for 90-kms from Bahir Dar to the Monasteries in Lake Tanna. But upon completion of the Azezo-Gorgora road tourists will be able to travel from Gondar to lake Tanna Monasteries which stretched only 53-kms.
