The construction of the Chinese-built Ethiopian Airlines Group headquarters building in Addis Ababa tops out ahead of 2026 completion. The new headquarters building being constructed in Ethiopia’s capital officially topped out, marking completion of its main structural works. The topping out ceremony of the 45-meter-high structure was held on Monday and was attended by various representatives. These included officials from Ethiopian Airlines Group and China Civil Engineering Construction Group.  Mesfin Tasew, chief executive officer (CEO) of Ethiopian Airlines Group, noted his remarks on the project. He expressed confidence that the project will be completed on schedule, meeting the long-awaited desire of the airline.

“We want this headquarters to be completed as soon as possible. It is our expectation that this headquarters will be completed with the highest level of quality,” he said. The project is being constructed by CCECC on a total land area of over 33,560 square meters. Furthermore, the project consists of six different buildings with multiple facilities. These entail commercial, corporate and customer services facilities among others. Ethiopian Airlines has been making recent commendable strides in its projects such as Africa’s biggest airport project that is slowly taking shape.

The Scope of Implementation on Ethiopian Airlines Group Headquarters

The implementation of the Ethiopian Airlines Group headquarters is on that Mesfin Tasew is confident will be completed effectively. The CEO noted that the Chinese construction companies have successfully accomplished different projects for the airline earlier. Our decision to engage with CCECC shows our trust and confidence in the company to construct and deliver state-of-the-art facilities,” the CEO reiterated. On the other hand, Chen Sichang, general manager of CCECC noted his appreciation to be part of the project. Furthermore, he vowed to deliver the project on time and with top quality.

“Now, the main structure has been completed, our commitment to engineering excellence does not stop here. We pledge to our client and all stakeholders that we will continue to uphold our corporate motto of diligence, integrity, and perseverance,” Chen said. Launched on August 30, 2023, the Ethiopian Airlines headquarters project is set for completion in August 2026. The company also recently decided to undertake the construction of a new mega airport near Bishoftu town. Once completed, the Bishoftu international airport will be Africa’s largest with CCECC also invited to participate in its construction.
