Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, has completed and opened the landmark Goro-Bole airport VIP corridor. Mayor Adanech Abebe noted his approval as Addis Ababa unveiled one of its most ambitious urban infrastructure projects yet. “Our dreams will come true through our relentless work every day, every hour, every minute,” he said. The monumental project is a major step in Addis Ababa’s Urban Renewal venture that aims to modernize the city. The newly opened corridor is part of the city’s second phase of eight corridor projects. Furthermore, it marks the fourth corridor to be completed. It links the Addis Ababa International Convention Center to the Bole International Airport.
Its connection to the airport’s VIP Terminal also connects the Anbesa Garage–Jacross Goro corridor. Spanning over 290 hectares, the development stretches 12.74 kilometers. Moreover, it integrates 29.4 kilometers of pedestrian walkways and 15.2 kilometers of bicycle paths. The corridor also covers 12 kilometers of modern storm drains, making it a showcase of green, inclusive, and people-centered urban planning. Addis Ababa is making grand achievements and is only getting better, with entities such as Ethiopian Airlines expediting the city’s fast growth through projects such as their headquarters.
Key Facilities and Features of the Goro-Bole Airport VIP Corridor
The Goro-Bole Airport VIP Corridor is not just a road project but has numerous key facilities and features. The corridor is a multifunctional urban hub equipped with 5 bus and taxi terminals accommodating more than 550 vehicles. Moreover, it contains 4 parking lots with space for over 800 cars. 17 taxi and bus bays for smooth passenger flow and 5 kilometers of riverbank development and 2 new bridges are also part of it. 3.6 kilometers of drinking water supply infrastructure and 669 roadside lights for safety and accessibility. The corridor is also a monumental achievement to the Bole International Airport as it will enhance transport and mobility across the city. To enhance community life, the project also includes 4 plazas for social gathering.

The corridor has 41 cafes, 41 public toilets and 9 children’s playgrounds. The 7 sports fields and 130-hectare riverside green development will also enhance engagement and urban living. According to Mayor Adanech, the corridor is transforming both mobility and livelihoods. Over 320 buildings will be renovated and 350 new commercial shops opened. Moreover, significant employment opportunities will be created during and after construction. Other significances include ehanced business activity, reduced traffic congestion, and a cleaner, greener environment for residents.
