A proposal for Liberty Pumps Inc., to expand the operations of its pump manufacturing facility in Genesee County, has been approved by the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC).

The project earmarked at $13.7 million, is proposed to be located at the Apple Tree Acres business park in the town of Bergen. This is just one of the many projects approved by the GCEDC after the covid19 pandemic and it is also expected to increase the workforce of Liberty Pumps by over 300.

The expansion of this pump  manufacturing facility in Genesee is expected to include an estimated 107,000 square feet of new warehousing space as well as manufacturing space for new manufacturing cells, to accommodate the rapid business growth of the company. This will be added to the already existing 250,000 square foot plant, increasing the area by approximately 43%.

Along with the proposed expansion of the pump manufacturing facility in Genesee, an engineering laboratory and a research laboratory will be developed as well. The expansion will also include the installation of sump pumps as part of home improvement projects, since the company’s main activities cut across the manufacturing of pumping products for both ground water and waste water removal in residential and commercial applications.

The chairman of the board of directors of Liberty Pumps, Charlie Cook, gave an insight on the need for the expansion. He said that the machining of some of the company’s cast-iron parts is done at the current plant, which is already at full capacity because the machines are being added at a consistent pace, hence there is a need for an expansion of the current facility.

Steve Hyde who is the president and CEO of GCEDC in a statement gave credit to Charlie Cook, for the efforts made to have a home grown company expand their operations to increase employee strength from 280 to over 300; thereby, creating over 30 jobs in a space of 3 years.

The groundbreaking for this pump manufacturing facility in Genesee, has been scheduled for September, while the expected period of completion is  sometime around the fall of next year.
