The Falcon interchange improvement project is reportedly 55% complete. The project’s progress was announced by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The project site sits right between Al Ghubaiba street, Al Khaleej street as well as Khalid bin Al Waleed street. It includes the construction of two brand-new bridges along Al Khaleej Street. The very first bridge runs and extends 750 meters northwards. Meanwhile, the second bridge stretches 1.075 southward. Both bridges include six lanes in each direction. Both bridges boast a total capacity of up to 24,000 vehicles per hour, in both directions.
In addition, the works will include a one-lane bridge. This bridge will extend 250 meters for a right-turn from Khalid bin Al Waleed street to Al Khaleej street. It will boast a total capacity of 1,600 vehicles per every hour.
Additional works and expectations for the Falcon interchange improvement project
Furthermore, a two-lane tunnel that stretches for 500 meters will also be built. The tunnel will serve left turns from Khaleed bin al Waleed street to Al Mina street. It has the capacity to handle over 3,200 vehicles every hour. The capacity of all the tunnels and bridges under the project will result in a total number of 28,899 vehicles every hour.
The Falcon interchange is expected to link with the northern side of the Al Shindagha Bridge, which is also known as the Infinity Bridge. The interchange will therefore enhance traffic safety as well as provide entry and exit points for the Rashid Port. Additionally, it will provide more parking spaces that will be available under the new bridge to serve the area.
The project is a part of a much bigger project; the Al Shindagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project.Â
Shindagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project
This is one of the biggest projects that are being carried out by the RTA. Because of its massive scope, the project was split into seven phases. Six of the seven phases are already complete. These are the intersection of Sheikh Rashid-Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Streets, and the entry/exit points of Deira Islands at the junction of Abu Bakr Al Siddique.
The improvement of the intersection of Omar bin Al Khattab and Al Musalla Streets with Al Khaleej Street and flyovers of Corniche Street are the second pair. The last of the six phases are the Infinity Bridge and the slope of the Infinity Bridge on the Deira side.
The Shindagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project also involves the improvements of Al Khaleej Street. Its intersection with Abu Hail Street and the junction of Sheikh Rashid Street with Jumeirah, Al Mina, and Al Mankhool Streets are also set to be worked on. Additional works include the construction of bridges stretching 3.4 km, tunnels extending 2.25 kilometers, six surface junctions, and roads extending 5.1 kilometers. Southward bridges leading to Deira are set to be constructed in the future as part of the project.
Recently RTA announced that Shindagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project was 75% complete.
