President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has laid the foundation for the construction of a 2.5mw solar power plant at NDA in Kaduna. The Rural Electrification Programme is carrying out the multi-million-naira World Bank project, whose completion is anticipated in 12 months’ time.

Speaking at the event, President Buhari said the groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of the 2.5mw solar power plant at NDA under the Energising Education Programme (EEP) Phase II. It is being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) with financial Support from the World Bank.

He said, “This intervention started with EEP Phase 1, which was financed by the Federal Government through the Green Bond.”

He added, “The program is already giving energy to students and employees at seven federal colleges in different geopolitical regions.

A training facility for renewable energy to be provided by the proposed solar power plant at NDA in Kaduna

The President, who was represented by the retired Maj. Gen. Bashir, Minister of Defence, assured the contractors, Messr Dongfang Electric Corporation–Mutual Commitment Company (DEC-MCC), of the Federal Government’s unwavering support as they “embark on the project. Additionally, the project will offer street lighting, distribution network restoration, and a training facility for renewable energy at NDA.

He added, “We expect nothing less than a high standard and quality project with REA as the implementing agency. Furthermore, they will guarantee sustainability and electricity supply to this esteemed military academy.

Additionally, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, the Managing Director of REA, stated that the project would be finished on time. He added, “The goal of the solar energy project is to supplement the national grid’s electricity supply.”
