Ghana has commenced the construction of Teshie Demo culvert road which is part of the government’s Syno Hydro Project. Speaking during the ceremonial sod cutting, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), Mrs Evelyn Naa Adjeley Twum-Gyamrah said that the project aims to open access to Demo, a heavily populated residential area in Teshie, to the main Accra-Tema beach road.

“That culvert as it is now is grossly inadequate to convey the flow that is coming from upstream thus became difficult to drive over. It was constructed over the Kpeshie Lagoon serves as a channel for two major streams – the Nabrajor and Korjor. The latter which holds larger volumes holds up water coming from the Nabrajor during floods, causing a spillage that covers the road making it unmotorable. So when that happens, then it means that anyone coming along the bush road will not even see the culvert. It hence needs to be rebuilt to an appropriate size,” explained Mrs Evelyn.

Mrs Evelyn further added that the project forms part of the assembly’s responsibility to provide infrastructure to the area, and when completed it would go a long way to improve the social service delivery in the area and the municipality at large,” said Mrs Evelyn.
The project, which is being funded from the District Development Fund and awarded to Messrs Salifu A. Abu Company Limited, is expected to be completed within three months. Mrs Evelyn indicated that alternative routes had been created to ensure that the project does not create problems with movements that could disadvantage the people.
