The Ningo-Prampram sea defense & land reclamation project that is being implemented in  Ningo-Prampram, a district of the Greater Accra Region in Ghana, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by the end of December this year.

This is according to Mr. Kwasi Sarpong Osei, a Project Manager for Messrs Bridge Global Consolidated Limited, the company undertaking the construction works for the project which entails the construction of a five-kilometer armour rock revetment, the construction of a system of groynes, and the reclamation of land.

The project was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in December 2019  with the objective of protecting coastal communities against tidal wave attacks and sea erosion.

The actual construction works commenced in June last year.

Also, according to the project manager, out of a total of 24 groynes set for construction as part of the project, eleven had been completed with six others at the foundation stage.  He assured that more groynes would be completed by the end of this month (July 2021) to ensure that the company met its December deadline.

He also urged the government of Ghana to contribute to the realization of this schedule by releasing funds for the project by mid-August, 2021 as the company, which has been funding the project from its own cash flow was at a “breaking point.

Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Works and Housing in Ghana, on the other hand, said that the Government will continue to invest in sea defense projects because they are not only protecting the lives of people but also promoting economic activities.
