Granite Construction (GVA) has secured a $71 million contract from the United States Army Corps of Engineers to upgrade and expand the rail yard at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. This federally funded project is included in Granite’s third-quarter Capital Allocation Plan (CAP) for 2024.
The project includes major upgrades to improve efficiency and capacity within the rail yard. Some major upgrades include new loading spurs, an expanded vehicle staging area, and a secondary connection to the Union Pacific Railroad. These upgrades are to be made for the purpose of streamlining the rail loading process and reducing processing time while allowing more activity.
“This project at Fort Bliss highlights Granite’s expertise while fostering collaboration across our teams and creating new growth opportunities for our employees,” said Derek Betts, Granite Vice President of Regional Operations.
Curt Haldeman, another Vice President of Regional Operations at Granite, emphasized the broader implications of the project. “This initiative reflects a strategic partnership between our Federal Division and regional operations. It provides regional employees with valuable federal project experience while strengthening our footprint in the West Texas market,” he stated.
Construction start
Construction of the Fort Bliss rail yard expansion project will commence during February 2025 and is likely to be complete by June 2027. Such a project shall have operational advantages for the military installation and thus help strengthen the position of Granite in providing important infrastructure.
Granite still places itself among the leaders of infrastructure development while working in synchronization with national priorities and local needs through the collaboration of federal funding with strategic insights from operations.
Granite is America’s Infrastructure Company established in 1922 and remains one of the largest diversified construction and construction materials companies in the United States as well as a full-suite civil construction provider listed on NYSE:GVA.
