India-based Reliance Group has highlighted its plans to construct the world’s biggest data center in India. Headed by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, the company seeks to enter the AI sector through this project. Moreover, Ambani has noted their partnership with NVIDIA, a strategic partnership to ensure the data center’s implementation in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Reliance plans to leverage powerful AI semiconductors to achieve an enormous capacity of three gigawatts. US-based NVIDIA is recognized as a global leader in AI and hopes to facilitate the achievement of the project’s ambitions. Once operational, the facility will outsize the world’s largest existing data centers, which operate at capacities below one gigawatt. Moreover, it will mark a significant endeavor in infrastructure scale and capabilities, reshaping the AI landscape. In October 2024, Reliance and NVIDIA announced a joint initiative to build AI infrastructure in India during the NVIDIA AI Summit.

The Scope of Implementation on the World’s Biggest Data Center

Implementing the world’s biggest data center is expected to involve various plans. Outlined earlier in October, NVIDIA noted that they would supply their Blackwell AI processors for a one-gigawatt data center being developed by Reliance. However, updates on the latest insights on the progress of the progress remain awaited. Moreover, earlier in September last year, both companies launched a partnership to build AI supercomputers in India. The partnership also outlined their aim to develop large language models (LLMs) tailored to the country’s linguistic landscape.

NVIDIA also extended a similar collaboration with the Tata Group, highlighting their commitment to advancing India’s AI ecosystem. The government of India is also backing up these projects, commending their implementation. This is clearly illustrated by channeling over Rs 10,000 crore to support AI initiatives. The funds allocated facilitate supporting startups, AI projects, and LLM development. The completion of the world’s biggest data center is expected to have a significant impact in reshaping the AI sector for the better.
