The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has officially announced plans for the development of the Kanpur Logistics Park Project in India. The project will serve as a major boost to the state economy.

Currently, there are only 3 logistical hubs in the country. One was built by the Container Corporation of India Ltd while the other two were built by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Ltd and Adani group.

Kanpur Logistics Park to reduce transpiration costs

Upon completion, the Kanpur Logistics Park will be the fourth mega logistical hub within the region for cargo movement.

The facility will serve as a significant milestone for DFCCIL, as it will be their first-of-its-kind development. Getting down to business, the corporation has officially acquired a 70-hectare plot of land in a total of 3 villages for the project. These include Maharajpur, Tilsaharibujurg, and lastly, Haripur.

Speaking to TOI while at the Inno Rail Exhibition at PDSO, the director of operations and business development of DFCCIL gave insight into the project. Nanduri Srinivas said that within two years, the construction works would have been completed. He also revealed that the multimodal logistics park will be 20 kilometers from Kanpur city, near the Rooma railway station.

Once operational, the Kanpur Logistics Park aims to handle a total of 15 million tonnes of goods, annually. As a result, the logistic hub will significantly contribute towards the reduction of transportation costs.

Moreover, the mega logistics park will further boost the government’s ‘One District, One Product’ initiative. The Programme views every district as a country with a special product. Therefore, the Programme encourages each district to focus all of its energies/resources on the expansion of the outreach of its special product.

Nanduri Srinivas lastly noted that the project is a part of the eastern DFC, that connects Ludhiana to Sonnagar.
