The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) started a sensitization program to construct the 740-kilometer El Wak-Rhamu Road. The project falls under the Multinational Horn of Africa Isiolo-Mandera Corridor. KeNHA received funds from the African Development Fund (ADF) for road construction and safety initiatives. The program aims at improving road safety by conducting audits, awareness, and public sensitization. Its primary purpose is to identify and correct potential safety hazards. This will reduce accidents upon completion of the project.
KeNHA will also review past road safety audits and integrate other safety features. Moreover, the Authority will conduct temporary traffic management safety audits to reduce risk during construction. A post-construction road safety audit will also analyze how drivers and pedestrians utilize the improved road. The government also acquired $215 million in funding from the World Bank to ensure effective implementation. Lastly, the El Wak-Rhamu Road project will improve connectivity, promote trade, and deepen digital infrastructure.
