Kenya’s local contractors has collaborated with international construction firms to meet affordable housing deadline of delivering 500,000 homes in five years as set by the National Housing Corporation,NHC.

The Big 5 Construct East Africa will bring construction stakeholders together from 7th–9th November 2018 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre,KICC Kenya to sit through the agenda comprising the construction of the houses.

“Given the scale of the project, some 500,000 units in five years, we are actively introducing international construction companies to local contractors in the housing sector,” said the Vice President of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) Arch. Gad Opiyo said.

‘Big Four’ development agenda

Gad explained that affordable housing is at the forefront of Kenya’s ‘Big Four’ development agenda, which also includes the growth of security, affordable healthcare and manufacturing sectors.

Together with the AAK, they will support the government’s efforts by formulating housing policy and by linking officials to professionals and stakeholder consultants from the global construction industry.

“There is no better time than now to invest in the Kenyan construction market. Thanks to the ambitious focus on housing, investors will enter a sector that is currently benefiting from strong government backing in the form of construction-focused finance schemes and updated building policies,” Muhammed Kazi, Event Director for The Big 5 Construct East Africa commented.

The official exhibition of Kenya’s National Construction Week, The Big 5 Construct East Africa is expecting over 200 brands from around the world to showcase the latest building solutions during its second edition.The event will also offer 40 complimentary workshops and live product demonstrations.

  1. There are no listings of cellular concrete building products at the exhibit. Aerated concrete including autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and cellular lightweight concrete (CLC) has been shown to be an excellent candidate for affordable housing projects.
