The struggling tourism sector in Kenya has received a shot in the arm following the opening of what analysts say is one of its kind Marina. The English Point Marina in Kenya is a resort situated at the Coast.

The marina is one of its kind between Cape Town in South Africa and Cairo in Egypt. During the opening ceremony, President Uhuru announced a raft of initiatives that will boost the industry such as a Sh1.2 billion incentive for charter flights to stimulate tourism arrivals at the Coast.

The President was accompanied by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, as well as a host of other Cabinet Secretaries and senior government officials while inaugurating the hotel.

The newly launched English Point Marina In Kenya constitutes of a 26-room hotel, conferencing facility, a roof-top restaurant, a casino, swimming pool, 96 serviced apartments – including 8 penthouses – seafront restaurant, gym and spa, as well as a boardwalk with retail outlets, water-sports centre and fully-serviced 88-berth marina.

This initiative is considered as timely as Kenya’s tourism industry is currently doing well compared to 2014 where the country was faced by several insecurity issues that affected the industry.

The multi-million dollar marina resort will definitely boost the economy of the country as it will put Kenya on the map of the luxury yacht market and the investment is set to open up Kenya to the high-end international ocean travelers.

Kenya’s coastal tourism sector has continued to see a rise in numbers as six cruise ships arrived in Mombasa with more than 3,000 tourists and crew during the December holidays.

In addition, on December 9, Seven Seas Voyager arrived at the port with 600 tourists making it the third cruise ship to dock in less than one month. The good fortune is set to continue well during the year, according to the shipping schedule prepared by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
